Photo Tour
Welcome to Riverbend Academy’s Photo Tour
When you round the curve on Gideon Drive as you leave Delaware, you will see the fiery Phoenix on our sign. Our Phoenix represents our students rising above and making a difference. Riverbend Academy is a place where children discover their purpose excel with confidence — becoming positive leaders.
But don’t just drive by! Come in for a visit and find out how we are creating amazing students with our innovative programs.
As you approach our front door, to the left is the Serenity Circle — our outdoor classroom, gathering area, and donor recognition spot. Simply spend five minutes sitting here and you will begin to understand what we are trying to accomplish with some of our programs such as the Student Serenity Program, Morality for a Happy Life, and The Virtues Project.
Each student at Riverbend Academy has their own locker. It is important to us that every student feels they are just as important to the school. In our tolerant and caring environment, all children are accepted for who they are and encouraged to be themselves.
Learning through play and experience is critical to the success of our JK-SK students. At the same time, they begin learning confidence and self-expression in the early stages of our Tools for a Successful Life which continues on their journey to Grade 12.
Both students and teachers love our large, bright classrooms. With a maximum of 15 students in a classroom designed for twice that, we have space to provide our students areas for reading nooks, project space, and group projects.
Our large classrooms are also laid out to maximize collaborative learning and communication. At Riverbend Academy each student deserves to be heard and we encourage our students to contribute to discussion. Nothing will destroy creativity like fear. Here, failure is not something to be feared but rather looked on as just one more learning experience.
No education is complete without an appreciation of music. Whether Bach or Bachman, classical, soul, country, or hip-hop, we strive to develop a passion for music in our students.
As Einstein said, “The important thing is not to stop questioning.” Nature, biology, chemistry, physics, or space we continue to push our students to question and nurture their curiosity.
Riverbend Academy considers Drama to be one of the more important courses our students take. Why? Ask any businessman if he regrets not having had more instruction in drama as he goes into his big presentation. Even Harvard Law requires their law students to take an acting class. Drama builds confidence, presence, and will help all our students. Our media room acts as an opportunity for the students to see their dramatic work, analyze it, and learn more from the experience. With high quality video cameras, sound equipment, and a full lighting suite, students have the opportunity to fully engage their creativity. Watch for us on YouTube!
Technology is important for any student and Riverbend Academy delivers a varied program to prepare students for the future. TechnoKids uses interesting and engaging projects to teach students Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access. But we don’t just teach them how to use computer software, we also want to show them how to create their own programs. Computer programming helps teach students realize that any task (no matter how daunting) can be broken down into manageable steps. It also combines logical thinking and creativity — two abilities that are normally considered separately.
Nutrition is so important for growth and development in everyone but especially children. Without the proper fuel, their brain power also suffers immensely. Without good food going in, children will be sluggish, irritable, and incapable of reaching their full potential. As part of the annual tuition, Riverbend Academy provides a nutritious, hot lunch prepared in our own kitchen at the school. Each day, that delicious food is taken down the hallway to our Community Lunch Room.
Riverbend Academy is not just a school, it is a community — highlighted by our Lunch Room, where all students and staff eat together. There are no quick 20 minute lunches where children do not have time to eat because they are rushed out the door so teachers can eat. Instead, each student has 45 minutes to enjoy their food because their teachers are eating right next to them.
Successful people do not see problems, they see solutions. Welcome to our Solution Room. We don’t have a staff room at Riverbend Academy. Instead, we have our Board Room — the place we come to find solutions and discuss and develop new initiatives and programs. It is also a place that students can offer ideas for new programs, entrepreneurial ideas, fundraisers, and community service.
Study after study have shown a correlation between physical fitness and high academic scores so Physical Education and fitness is a priority at Riverbend Academy. Our nutritious food and physical activity give our students a huge advantage for their academic success. We strive to have PE every day and have augmented the Ontario Curriculum with an Aikido program. Aikido classes are non-violent, non-aggressive, non-competitive, 100% defensive, efficient, effective, gentle, safe, fun, and fulfilling. The idea for the student is to learn how to defend themselves. Of course, fresh air is important too so we strive to get our students out of the gym as often as possible.
Riverbend Academy is located on 7.8 quiet, peaceful acres with mature trees, soccer nets, basketball nets, a baseball diamond, and picnic tables under the trees. Room to run, explore, and discover.
We hope you enjoyed the virtual tour but nothing can compare to the real thing. Please visit us during one of our many Open Houses or contact us regarding a private tour.
